The floor was designed to look and feel like asphalt. It had to be very realistic, as the first row of seating was on the deck.
The texture included a joint compount, a thick adhesive, and kitty litter. The top clear coat had glitter in it to replicate the mica in pavement.
Another challenge was keeping the texture on the ramp and off the stage floor, which was not budgeted for replacement.
The designer brought in chunks of asphalt found in the parking lot to help me match the look and texture.
